Okeechobee County Board of County Commissioners encourage public participation in county government by appointing Okeechobee residents to serve on boards, committees, commissions, task forces, agencies and or authorities.

Have you seen a "Scenic Road" sign while driving and questioned how the road got that designation?  Have you wondered whose idea it was to change the zoning designation on the property down the street? Do you know how streetlights might pop up in your neighborhood or how industrial development is planned?

Many of these final decisions or actions start with groups of citizens volunteering their time on one of county's citizen advisory boards. Each board is created by state statute, county ordinance or resolution by the Okeechobee County Board of County Commissioners and tasked with reviewing and researching a topic, hearing appeals or making recommendations. Citizens wishing to learn more about Okeechobee County's citizen advisory boards may call the commission office at 863-763-6441.
