Driveway Permit Information
Before installing any driveway or means of ingress and egress to any property abutting a County road or County maintained road, the owner of the subject property or the person installing said driveway acting as owner's designee shall make application to the Community Development Department for review and approval to receive a permit authorizing said installation.
- Permit applications can be submitted in person at 1700 NW 9th Ave Ste A, Okeechobee, Fl. or via email to permitting@okeechobeecountyfl.gov.
- The permit must be pulled by the homeowner or a licensed contractor.
- Driveway permits are good for a total of 10 years, but they expire after 6 months if no inspections are scheduled, and no extension is requested.
- A certificate of occupancy cannot be issued until the driveway permit is finalized.
- Working within the right-of-way without a permit can result in code violation plus the applicable permit fee.
- Proper permitting ensures that driveways meet County standards, which benefits the whole community by preventing drainage concerns, road and/or sidewalk damage, and potential future issues with the driveway’s durability.
Permit Application Process
- Complete the Driveway Permit Application(printable online form below) and submit to Community Development along with the permit fee either by cash, check, or money order, and payable to Okeechobee County Board of Commissioner.
- Upon receipt of the completed and executed Driveway Permit Application, the Road and Bridge Department will conduct a site inspection and determine the proper culvert size. This information will be provided to the person applying for the permit.
- After the driveway culvert has been installed, the owner will need to contact the Public Works Department for final inspection.
