Below a list of some common code violations and ways to correct the violation.

 Inoperable, unlicensed or abandoned vehicle(s)-

Any abandoned property, meaning any personal property, including motor vehicles, left in plain view under circumstances reasonably indicating that the possessor or owner thereof has relinquished any rights of ownership therein. In residential districts, no automotive vehicles, trucks, buses, tractor trailers, mobile homes, manufactured homes, recreational vehicles or trailers of any type without current registration and license plates shall be parked or stored on any residentially zoned property other than in completely enclosed buildings. Please see sections 10.02.02(B) or 10.02.02(I) of the Okeechobee County Land Development Regulations.

To correct this violation, the property owner must obtain tags for any unlicensed vehicles and repair or dispose of inoperable or abandoned vehicles. See example below.

Trash and debris-

Any trash, litter, debris, garbage, bottles, paper, plastic, metals, cans, rags, offal, bricks, concrete, lumber, building materials, or dead or decaying animals or plants (except for plant compost piles). Please see section 10.02.02(D) of the Okeechobee County Land Development Regulations.

To correct this violation, the property owner must remove all trash and debris. See example below.

Unauthorized occupancy of recreational vehicle-

No recreational vehicle shall be used for dwelling purposes within Okeechobee County unless located within a licensed recreational vehicle park, subdivision or campground. Please see section 7.08.05(A) of the Okeechobee County Land Development Regulations.

Unauthorized farm animals in residential district-

It is hereby declared to be in the best interest of Okeechobee County and its citizens to restrict the number, type, and location of animals harbored on a residential parcel. Horses, cows, and temporary 4H, FFA or Okeechobee School District projects, may only be harbored upon residential parcels depending on the property type. Livestock and other traditional farm animals including chickens, turkeys, and other fowl are not permitted to be harbored upon a residential parcel.  Please see section 10-7 of the Okeechobee County Code of Ordinances.

To correct this violation, contact our office to determine what type of property you have. If the animals are not permitted due to your property type, they must be removed. See examples of farm animals below.

Construction without a permit-

No development activity may be undertaken unless the activity is authorized by a development permit. Please see section 13.01.01 of t he Okeechobee County Land Development Regulations.

To correct this violation, the property owner must obtain any permits that may be required. Often, a property will remain in violation until a final inspection is completed and approved. To inquire about obtaining a permit, please contact the Community Development Department at:

Outdoor storage-

The storage or dumping of dismantled, partially dismantled, obsolete, or wrecked vehicles, appliances, household goods, machinery or their parts outside of parcel zoned and permitted for such use, or in violation of the conditions contained in a special exception permitting such use. Please see section 10.02.02(L) of  the Okeechobee County Land Development Regulations.

To correct this violation, the property owner must remove any outdoor storage on the property or store it properly.

Overgrown grass and weeds- 

Nuisance weeds, excluding trees, shrubs and saw palmetto, in excess of 12 inches in height which impair the economic welfare of property, contribute to a fire hazard, or create a health hazard, when any part of the growths are located on any developed plot. Please see section 10.02.02(K) of the Okeechobee County Land Development Regulations.

To correct this violation, the property owner must clear all overgrown grass and weeds and continue to keep the property clear. See example of before and after below.

Unauthorized use of recreational vehicle, or other accessory structures-

No mobile home, manufactured home, recreational vehicle or trailer as defined in this Code shall be permitted as a storage structure, building or shed in a residential zone. Please see section 2.07.00 of the Okeechobee County Land Development Regulations.
